b&n review

Who knows more about books than Barnes & Noble, right? B&N Review is a great example of how an ecommerce site like barnesandnoble.com can wrap book reviews, interviews and community to create a whole new product. The challenge for Sudden on this site was to create a simple but compelling information architecture and then design a user interface that would be as sophisticated as the content.

highlights

  • Designed a magazine format around a social blog technology architecture (Lithium)
  • Created a site that surfaces a lot of content without being confusing
  • Promoted both ecommerce sales and advertising revenue streams

Barnes and Noble came to Sudden to redesign its existing B&N Review site so that it was more user friendly while taking advantage of the new blogging platform (Lithium) that it would be using as a CMS. Sudden did a deep content strategy with the B&N Review team to get a clearer idea of how better to structure the site’s content and then it created a new user experience and design to best reflect the sophisticated nature of the content. A large part of our design strategy was to make sure that the new site took the most advantage of the social media tools available through Lithium, while still being easy to update and maintain on a regular basis.
